I didn’t write anything yesterday. The subway broke down on my way to work and on my way home from work and I knew that whatever I wrote was not gonna be… nice or fun or a reflection of who I am as a person.
So, on to brighter subjects, such as today’s topic of my admiration: things that are both functional and undeniably cute (I will also accept “cheeky” here). I’ve always felt that if you’re going to buy something, it should 1) make your life better or easier or both and 2) not be boring. Because why would I want normal measuring spoons when I could have these ones that look like cherries? Alternatively, see: Kikkerland’s entire website, where you can find items as cactus shaped dryer balls, this fisherman teabag holder, and this Mozart timer.
This is why I had one of those bunny tail phone cases. It was simple, effective, and cute. That’s why I love anything in miniature; erasers that look like food or this tiny dutch oven by Le Creuset for example. Like why are you so cute and tiny? Something about these items sets off a physiological response known as “cute aggression” in me; which Wikipedia describes as “superficially aggressive behavior caused by seeing something cute, such as a human baby or young animal. People experiencing cute aggression may grit their teeth, clench their fists, or feel the urge to bite, pinch and squeeze something they consider cute, while not actually causing or intending to cause any harm.“ Yeah, that.
All of that puts me a bit at odds with home trends of the past few years. It’s like we all decided we wanted to live in rooms that look like insane asylums for botanists. See below. I do love a nice simple aesthetic, but I also like things that are fun(ny).
Which brings me to the Moschino jackets at the beginning of this post. They’re soooo fun. And I like fun! I was recently asked what brands I like by a pretty well-known designer and I totally flopped, freaked, and was trying to convince him that I love Celine. Like huh?? Anyway, I don’t know how I didn’t realize it, but Moschino is clearly my favorite designer. Homeboy (Jeremy Scott) made a croissant handbag and, I mean, if that ain’t me. Now I just need to figure out how to pronounce Moschino.
